1. What is Thunderbolt 3?

The latest MacBook Pro models (from late 2016) are equipped with Thunderbolt 3 port instead of Thunderbolt 2.
This port is compatible with USB-C, so it integrates data transfer, charging, and video output in a single connector.
Existing devices are easily connected by using a conversion cable or adapter.

2. Validated Devices

Mac

Apple MacBook Pro (Retina, 13inch, late 2016)

  • GPU: Intel Iris Graphics 540
  • Thunderbolt 3 output (2 ports)
  • Without Touch Bar
  • OS: macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

Cables and Adapters

  • Apple Thunderbolt 3 - Thunderbolt 2 adapter
  • EIZO PM200 cable (Mini DisplayPort - DisplayPort)
  • j5 create USB-C - DisplayPort cable
  • Startech USB-C - DisplayPort cable

3. Validation Results

  • Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter doesn't support any DisplayPort device.
This means the EIZO monitor cannot display using Thunderbolt 3 - Thunderbolt 2 adapter and PM200.
  • The EIZO monitor can display via 3rd party USB-C - DisplayPort cable, so we recommend using it.
  • Dual screen on 4K monitors is available when using 3rd party USB-C - DisplayPort cable.
  • When you use ColorNavigator, you also need a USB-C - USB adapter.
